How to Swing the Coil

Swinging your Metal Detector the right way for a gratifying outcome .
By Rich whitesell

When swinging your metal detector, appropriate technique is crucial. if you suspend the coil too high over the soil depth is gone. If you swing the coil to rapidly, you might miss a valuable object. Also if you go too swiftly, you might pass over a target.

Far as the height beyond the soil goes, you would like to suspend the coil as close to the soil as possible. Obviously, if you're working your machine in tall growth you're perhaps three or four inches above the soil. On the other hand, once you detect on different a landscape like on a level flat beach surface, you can without difficulty skim the coil perfectly over the sand. Keep in mind, the higher the coil is on top of the soil the extra depth you will lose. If you got a old dime that is six in. underneath the ground, and your detector can detect eight inches, and the coil is three inches over the surface, you will fail to detect that target. If the coil had been in a straight line upon the surface you would be able to detect that target.

For walking speed, remember a mild slow walk is crucial.

I have used this technique productively to locate lots of token type coins, silver jewelry, along with other odd finds. Just remember to take your time and keep the coil to the soil and you will find your treasure.
GOOD LUCK!

Metal detecting Indiana

Hello everyone! It has been awhile since I posted anything and thought I better get to it.I went on a metal detecting hunt today and the the weather was perfect for it.Garron (a friend of mine) called me up and wanted me to run my metal detector on his property to see what I could find.It was a pleasant surprise to unearth a Standing liberty Quarter and a shell gas station token. My dad used to collect them back when I was a child and he would be thrilled to see it.Sad to say he passed away a few years back and miss the time dad and I went metal detecting. Here is a video of today's hunt hunt..Enjoy..until next time..
